In a shopping arcade in Oldenburg, roll containers and Euro pallets need to be transported daily between the basement and the shopping arcade level. As the restaurant’s storage and cold rooms are located in the basement, a space-saving yet discreet underground lift solution was required.
The challenge: Transporting goods without restricting the shopping arcade
A conventional freight elevator would have permanently occupied valuable floor space with its enclosure and restricted pedestrian traffic within the shopping arcade. The objective was therefore to find a solution that would provide reliable goods transport while keeping the arcade fully accessible at all times.
The solution: Underground lift by Janzen Lifttechnik
Janzen Lifttechnik installed an underground lift that disappears completely into the floor when not in use. Unlike a conventional freight elevator, this solution keeps the shopping arcade fully accessible while preserving its clean, uniform appearance.
Despite its discreet integration, the lift fully meets the requirements for goods transport. With a load capacity of 1,500 kg and a platform size of 1,200 × 2,500 mm, it is ideally suited for transporting roll containers and Euro pallets.
Paved tray ensures virtually invisible integration
To ensure that the underground lift blends seamlessly into the shopping arcade, the canopy was designed with a paved tray. It is finished with the same paving as the rest of the arcade. When the lift is lowered, it integrates almost seamlessly into the surrounding floor surface and is barely noticeable to pedestrians.
The result: Efficient goods deliveries without visible lift technology
Roll containers and Euro pallets are transported directly from the delivery area to the basement—without detours or physically demanding manual handling. The restaurant benefits from fast and ergonomic goods deliveries, while the shopping arcade remains permanently accessible to pedestrians and vehicles. The lift technology is only visible while the lift is in operation.
