Reference 056 – Scissor lift table for rolling loads

Lift tables suitable for transporting rolling loads must meet additional safety requirements. In this article, we introduce you to some features that make a work lift table safer for handling rolling loads.

Active roll-off protection

An active roll-off protection in the form of a blade is integrated into the platform of the lift table, which extends when the platform is raised. This prevents the rolling load from unintentionally reaching over the edge of the scissor lift platform.

For extending and retracting the fall protection, we use hydraulic cylinders that are coupled with the lift system's circuit. This reduces the number of hydraulic valves needed, which not only lowers costs but also reduces future maintenance efforts.

In the following video, we show you how the active fall protection works:

Under-run protection and toe protection safety strips

To secure the hazard area beneath the scissor lift table, a bellows has been installed. This consists of a folded plastic sleeve that can expand or contract like an accordion.

In addition, the platform is equipped with toe protection safety strips. Should the bellows be compressed by an employee's foot, the safety strips prevent foot crushing by immediately stopping the lowering movement of the scissors when activated.

Load monitoring

For our lift tables, we place great emphasis on stability and durability. To prevent damage from overloading, we continuously monitor the pressure in the hydraulic system, thereby preventing the transport of excessively heavy loads.

In the lowered position, a pressure relief valve suffices, which sends the hydraulic oil back to the tank under excessive pressure, making it impossible to raise the platform.

In the raised position, pressure monitoring is more complex. Here, we install a pressure switch that continuously compares the actual pressure with the allowed maximum pressure. If the allowed pressure is exceeded, the switch reports this to the master control system. Consequently, a warning is issued to the operator and the lift table cannot be operated further.

Surrounding platform edge for aesthetic integration

Unlike the previously mentioned safety features, the surrounding platform edge is an aesthetic design element. The surrounding edge was integrated at the customer's request to make the lift table visually appealing and to equip it with the same flooring as the floor at the customer's site. This customization ensures a harmonious integration of the lift table into the existing environment and contributes to the overall aesthetics of the space.
