Palletizing Wooden Panels: Tandem Lift Table with Sensor-Controlled Cycling

At the end of an automated production line, processed wooden panels needed to be transferred, stacked onto pallets, and then transported to the unloading station. For this application, Janzen Lifttechnik developed a tandem lift table for a furniture manufacturer, featuring automatic height adjustment and a powered roller conveyor.

The Challenge: Maintaining a Constant Transfer Height During the Palletizing Process

The processed wooden panels leave the production line at a continuous cycle rate. To ensure that each panel can be placed consistently and precisely onto the pallet stack, the stack height must be adjusted automatically after each panel is deposited.

At the same time, manual intervention needed to be kept to a minimum. In addition to automatic height adjustment, the project therefore also required fully loaded pallets to be transported automatically to the unloading station.

The Solution: Tandem Lift Table with Automatic Height Adjustment

The 5,500 mm long platform was designed as a tandem lift table and enables both palletizing and subsequent onward transport.

A photoelectric sensor detects when a wooden panel has been placed on the stack. The sensor-controlled cycling system then automatically lowers the lift table to the next preset height. This ensures that the required transfer height remains constant throughout the entire palletizing process. The lift table is integrated into the higher-level system control via potential-free contacts.

Once a pallet is fully loaded, the powered roller conveyor transports it to the unloading station. An empty pallet can then be positioned for the next palletizing cycle.

Synchronized Operation Even with Uneven Load Distribution

The long platform is supported by two scissor lift mechanisms. An integrated synchronization system ensures that both scissor assemblies operate in sync even when the load is unevenly distributed, keeping the platform level throughout the lifting and lowering movement.

Upper and lower limit switches monitor the end positions. Greaseable bearings reduce wear and contribute to a long service life. The robust design is engineered for high cycle rates and reliable operation in industrial environments.

The Result: Streamlined Material Flow with Less Manual Intervention

By combining automatic height adjustment with a powered roller conveyor, the lift table integrates seamlessly into the existing production process. The wooden panels can be palletized at a constant transfer height, while fully loaded pallets are then automatically transported to the unloading station.

As a result, manual intervention in the palletizing process is essentially limited to supplying empty pallets and removing the fully loaded pallets at the unloading station.
