Outdoor goods lift – the solution when space is limited
With a goods lift, transporting operations across multiple levels can be completed quickly and safely. But what do you do when there is not enough space for a goods lift inside the storage or production hall? One possible answer lies outdoors: An outdoor goods lift provides the perfect solution for spatially constrained conditions.
Discover the advantages of an outdoor freight elevator:
- Flexibility in design: An outdoor goods lift can often be more generously sized without being limited by the spatial conditions within a building. The greater availability of space outdoors makes it possible to transport even particularly bulky goods effortlessly.
- Simpler installation: Thanks to the better accessibility of the construction site in the outdoor area, the installation of the goods lift can be carried out more quickly and efficiently. In addition, the ongoing operations or production are hardly affected by the installation work.
Which equipment features are important outdoors?
The features of outdoor lifts must be carefully selected to ensure long-term functionality and safety under the challenging conditions of the outdoors. Here are the important features summarized and explained:
Weather resistance and environmental protection
- Electrical components: Must be executed in sufficiently high protection classes to be protected against moisture and dust.
- Hot-dip galvanizing: The platform, structures, and the underframe (if present) should be hot-dip galvanized to prevent corrosion.
- Hydraulic oil with low viscosity: Ensures that the hydraulic lift operates smoothly even at low temperatures.
- UV-resistant plastic coatings: Protect the external cables from damage due to direct sunlight.
- Protected installation of the unit: Ideally, the unit is installed in a specially protected area to shield it from weather conditions and vandalism.
- Stable installation against wind load: If the goods lift is mounted in a shaft, the shaft must be positioned to withstand strong wind.
Protection against unauthorized access and vandalism
- Access control: Options such as key switches or RFID readers to limit use to authorized personnel and prevent misuse.
- Robust construction: Especially important if the elevator is installed without a shaft, a robust construction minimizes the risk of damage from vandalism.
- Natural protective barriers: A concrete shaft or a steel frame with sandwich panels not only provides protection from environmental influences but also protects against unauthorized access and vandalism.
The RFID access control
The implementation of RFID access control for an outdoor goods lift is an effective measure to increase security and protection against unauthorized access. By using RFID technology, it can be ensured that only authorized persons have access to the elevator. The system works by an RFID reader scanning the data from a transponder chip. Access to operate the lift is granted only if the scanned data matches the permissions stored in the system. The signals to the evaluation unit, located in the main cabinet, are transmitted encrypted.
The following video demonstrates the user-friendly and straightforward application of the RFID access control:
What does a outdoor goods lift cost?
The price of an outdoor goods lift can vary greatly due to various individual requirements and specifications. The costs depend on the following factors:
- platform size, lifting height, load capacity, and number of stops
- execution with or without a shaft
- accessibility to the construction site, etc.
Due to the multitude of design options, it is difficult to provide a flat-rate price. Additionally, expenses for planning, approval, delivery, and installation are incurred. To give you a rough price idea, however, we would like to cite the following example:
A simplified goods lift with a lifting height of 3,000 mm, a load capacity of 1,500 kg, a platform of 1,500 mm x 1,000 mm, one stop, installed in a shaft provided by the construction site, costs approximately between 20,000 – 30,000 euros.

Which special aspects should be considered?
We exclusively manufacture goods lifts designed solely for the transportation of goods without passenger accommodation. As a result, a TÜV (Technical Inspection Authority) approval is typically not required.
If structural changes to the facade are necessary, an architect or structural engineer should assess whether the building or facade is sufficiently load-bearing.
The need for a construction permit for the planned construction project depends on the respective state building code of the corresponding federal state.
We would be pleased to assist you in preparing the necessary documentation for the relevant authorities and provide advisory support.
Our underground lift as an alternative
If you're looking for an outdoor elevator that can be seamlessly integrated into the environment while saving space, our underground lift is the right choice. Specifically designed for transporting goods between the ground floor and the basement, it can handle various transport tasks - whether as a refuse lift, goods lift for gastronomy, or retractable garage. Thanks to the walkable or drive-over canopy, the space on the ground floor can still be utilized.
Frequently asked questions & our answers ...
Where is the headquarters of Janzen Lifttechnik GmbH?
We are at home in the beautiful Emsland, more precisely in Niederlangen a member community of the joint community Lathen directly on the A31 motorway. This means that we are roughly halfway between North Rhine-Westphalia and the North Sea, right on the Dutch border.
Our region is known, among other things, for the various nature reserves, the well-developed cycle paths, the manufacture of cruise ships, as well as the headquarters of various distilleries.
Should you ever come to our region, we look forward to a visit in our plant.
Where are the lift tables and lifts produced?
With us, not only does the final assembly take place in Germany, but we also cover the entire production chain from construction through steel construction to final assembly in our plant in Niederlangen. With us you get a real 'Made in Germany'.
Is the offer aimed only at traders or also at private individuals?
Even if our products are mainly used in an industrial environment, we naturally also offer them to private individuals.
Just give us a call or send us an enquiry and we will be happy to contact you.
Will I receive a drawing before production starts?
In any case. To ensure that you get the product that you really want, we provide you with an approval drawing before production begins. In addition to the actual product, this also includes the installation situation. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Can I get a CAD model?
After ordering and the design phase, we are pleased to provide you with CAD models. Data exchange is possible in all common formats, including .stp, .dxf, .dwg, etc.
Where can delivery of the products be made?
We produce our lift tables and column lifts in accordance with European standards and guidelines. Accordingly, our sales area is limited to all countries that recognize these standards and guidelines (e.g. the members of the European Union, Switzerland and Australia).
For which countries is the assembly service available?
