Outdoor Goods Lift – The Solution When Space Is Limited
If there is not enough space for a goods lift inside a warehouse or production facility, installing the lift outdoors can be a practical alternative.
Flexible planning: Outdoor installations often offer greater flexibility in terms of platform size and installation configuration. This makes it possible to transport larger or bulky goods without taking up valuable space inside the building.
Good accessibility during installation: Outdoor installation sites are often easier to access. This can simplify installation work and reduce disruption to ongoing warehouse or production operations.
What Equipment Is Important for Outdoor Use?
An outdoor goods lift must be permanently protected against weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, and corrosion. Depending on the installation location, wind loads and protection against unauthorized access must also be taken into account.
Weather and corrosion protection
- Protected electrical components: Electrical components are protected against moisture and dust for outdoor use.
- Hot-dip galvanizing: The platform, superstructure, and, where applicable, the subframe are hot-dip galvanized to protect against corrosion.
- Hydraulics designed for low temperatures: A suitable hydraulic oil ensures reliable operation even at low outdoor temperatures.
- Wind loads: For versions with a shaft, the structure must be designed to withstand the wind loads at the installation site.
Protection against unauthorized access
- Access control: Key switches or RFID systems can restrict operation to authorized personnel.
- Enclosed shaft structure: A concrete shaft or, for example, a structure with sandwich panels provides additional protection against weather conditions and unauthorized access.
RFID Access Control for Goods Lifts
RFID access control allows the operation of the goods lift to be restricted to authorised personnel. Access is granted via a transponder, whose authorisation is verified by the system.
This helps prevent unauthorised use, particularly for outdoor installations that are freely accessible.
How Much Does an Outdoor Goods Lift Cost?
The cost of an outdoor goods lift depends on the specific configuration and the conditions on site. Key factors include:
- Platform size, lifting height and load capacity
- Number of stops
- Configuration with or without a shaft
- Accessibility and installation conditions on site
For this reason, it is difficult to provide a fixed price. However, the following example can serve as a general guideline:
Price example: A simplified goods lift with a load capacity of 1,500 kg, a platform measuring 1,500 × 1,000 mm and a lifting height of 3,000 mm, installed in a shaft provided by the customer, typically costs approximately €20,000 to €30,000.
For an accurate quotation, we take into account the specific requirements of your project as well as the actual installation conditions.
Structural Requirements and Permits
The following information applies to installations in Germany.
Our goods lifts are designed exclusively for transporting goods without passengers. Therefore, TÜV approval is generally not required.
If the installation requires modifications to the building or façade, the structural load-bearing capacity should be assessed by an architect or structural engineer. Whether a building permit is required for the planned installation depends on the applicable building regulations of the respective German federal state.
We are happy to assist you with the technical planning and the preparation of the required documentation.
Underground Lift as a Space-Saving Alternative
If the lift needs to blend discreetly into its surroundings, an underground lift can be an attractive alternative. It is suitable for transporting goods between the basement and ground floor and disappears completely into the ground when lowered. Thanks to its walk-on or drive-over cover, the area above the lift can continue to be used.
Frequently Asked Questions About Outdoor Goods Lifts
Can an outdoor goods lift be used in sub-zero temperatures?
Yes. With the appropriate design, operation at low outdoor temperatures is possible. Among other things, the hydraulic oil and lubricants used must be suitable for the expected temperatures. The specific configuration depends on the installation location and the intended temperature range.
Does an outdoor goods lift require a shaft?
Not necessarily. Options include an open design, a lift with its own shaft structure, or installation in a shaft provided by the customer. The most suitable solution depends on the installation conditions, access points, and the requirements for weather protection and access control.
Can a goods lift be installed on an existing building?
Yes. A goods lift can also be retrofitted to the exterior of an existing building, provided that the structural conditions allow it. Factors to be assessed include whether a pit is required and feasible, how the lift can be connected to the required building levels, and whether modifications to the façade are necessary.
Is a building permit required for an outdoor goods lift?
There is no general answer to this question. Whether a building permit is required depends on the specific project and the applicable building regulations at the installation location. This must therefore be assessed on a project-by-project basis. We are happy to assist you with the technical planning and the preparation of the required documentation.
What load capacities and dimensions are available?
Load capacity, platform size and lifting height can be adapted to the specific transport requirements. In addition to our preconfigured options, custom configurations are also available. The key factors are the goods to be transported, the required access points and the available space at the installation location.
