Ergonomic workspaces for customers and employees
Our client, a renowned manufacturer of high-quality office furniture, helps optimize the workspaces of its customers with height-adjustable desks and ergonomic office chairs.
However, the production of the office chairs has been physically challenging for the employees: the fully assembled chairs had to be manually lifted onto a 1.5-meter-high cart. While lifting a single office chair is certainly not a problem, doing so during an 8-hour shift is no easy task.
To improve the working conditions for its employees and to adhere to the principles of ergonomic workplace design internally as well, our client decided to implement a lifting aid.
The solution: A standard lift table with minor adjustments
During a personal meeting with our client on-site, it quickly became clear that we could offer a simple and effective solution that would make the employees' workday easier: our standard lift table. With slight modifications, it serves as the optimal lifting aid in the production of office chairs, not only protecting the health of the employees but also increasing efficiency in the production process.
Custom Dimensions
We have precisely tailored the platform of the scissor lift table to match the dimensions of the transport carts used. This allows employees to place up to five office chairs on the platform at once, thus optimally utilizing the transport cart.
The lift table's height was also specially adjusted. To facilitate easy removal from the production line, the employees stand on a slightly elevated pedestal. We have aligned the lift table’s height with the pedestal height to allow for an ergonomic and swift handover of the office chairs to the lift table.
The platform edge as a roll-off prevention
To ensure the safe transport of office chairs with casters during the lifting motion, we have provided an approximately 70 mm high edge on one longitudinal side as a roll-off prevention. The two sides used for the handover of the chairs are only 5 mm high to avoid creating additional barriers.
Ramp for handover to the transport cart
To further improve ergonomics, the scissor lift table features a short ramp on one narrow side. This ramp is similar to the loading flaps found on loading lift tables and can easily be placed over the surrounding edge of the transport cart onto its transport surface. This allows the office chairs to be effortlessly pushed from the lift table onto the transport cart.
Another advantage of the scissor lift table is its adaptability. Should the dimensions of the transport carts change, an adjustable limit switch allows for the quick adjustment of the lift height to the new conditions.
This example shows that work lift tables do not always have to be complex. Through simple but targeted adjustments, the scissor lift table can significantly ease the workday and enhance ergonomics and safety at the workplace.
