What maintenance work is required for a scissor lift table? This is a question we are often asked. To provide you with a simple guide, we have summarized the most important information regarding maintenance intervals and procedures clearly in this article.
Maintenance frequency: Dependent on usage and time
Similar to a car, the maintenance frequency of a scissor lift table largely depends on how often it is used. A lift table that is used regularly and intensively requires shorter maintenance intervals accordingly.
For this reason, maintenance recommendations are sometimes provided based on both time and usage. The determining factor is always the specification that is reached first: either the prescribed time interval or the maximum number of uses.
Daily maintenance: Visual inspection and cleaning
Strictly speaking, daily tasks are less about maintenance and more about a visual inspection. The following points should be checked:
- Are there any obvious damages to the scissor lift table?
- Are there any leaks or signs of leakage in the hydraulic system?
Additionally, it is recommended to clean the scissor lift table regularly. A clean surface makes it easier to detect damages or wear early on.
Monthly maintenance: System inspection
Even during monthly maintenance, no major work is typically required. The focus is mainly on inspecting the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems. The following points should be checked:
Safety features
- Does activating the foot protection safety edge stop the lowering motion? Is it still possible to raise the platform afterward?
- Does pressing the emergency stop button immediately halt the lifting or lowering process?
- Are all other safety features fully functional?
Electrical components
- Are the cable insulations undamaged?
- Are the plugs intact?
Hydraulic system
- Does the hydraulic unit have sufficient oil?
- Is the oil temperature within the specified range during operation?
Mechanics
- Are all screws securely tightened?
- Have the limit switches become loose?
Annual maintenance or after 1,000 operating hours or 50,000 lift cycles
After one year of operation or upon reaching 1,000 operating hours or 50,000 lift cycles, more extensive maintenance work is required. Perform the following steps:
Hydraulic system
- Replace the old hydraulic oil with new oil.
- If an oil filter is installed, replace it along with the hydraulic oil.
Mechanics
- If the lift table has greaseable bearings, apply fresh grease to them.
- Check the bearings for play. If any bearing exhibits excessive play, the bearing bush needs to be replaced.
Additional inspections
- Carry out the familiar visual and functional inspections to ensure the lift table is operating properly.
Maintenance after 200,000 lift cycles: Replacement of recommended components
In addition to the previously mentioned maintenance tasks, the following components should be replaced after 200,000 lift cycles:
Hydraulic system
- Hydraulic valves, such as the lowering valve and the pressure relief valve
Electrical components
- Main relay of the control system
Mechanics
- All bearing bushes, such as those on fixed, movable, scissor or connection bearings
Was that everything?
If your lift table is equipped with additional features or special configurations, further maintenance tasks may be necessary. For example, a lift table with a rotary platform will require regular maintenance of the slewing ring.
Nonetheless, it becomes clear: A hydraulic lift table can be maintained with relatively little effort. This fact, combined with the robust design of our scissor lift platforms, makes them a cost-efficient solution for lifting heavy loads.
Guidelines for maintenance work: Where can I find help?
Each of our lift tables comes with comprehensive documentation. This documentation explains step by step how to properly carry out various maintenance tasks. Texts, drawings, images and photos illustrate the individual steps and make implementation easier.
Don't want to perform the maintenance yourself? No problem! We offer tailored maintenance services – from one-time maintenance to a maintenance contract. With the exception of regular inspections, we take care of all maintenance tasks, allowing you to relax and focus on your core activities.
