The photo shows a powerful column lift with a generous platform. The platform offers an impressive total area of 12.5 square meters, ideal for storing props in a theater located upstairs in a two-story hall.
Why our customer chose a column lift
To reach the second floor, a height difference of over 3 meters needs to be overcome. A scissor lift table would have required a deeper pit, as scissor packs serve as the lifting mechanism.
The column lift offers a clear advantage here: The lifting mechanism is placed next to the platform, which means the depth of the pit does not exceed 180 mm, even with large platform dimensions. This is a decisive factor when a deeper pit is not feasible due to structural reasons.
Stability despite freestanding design
As can be seen in the video, there are no walls in the immediate vicinity of the goods lift that could absorb the lateral and tipping forces of the column lift. Therefore, bracing has been installed on the side of the guide column to effectively transfer these forces into the ground. As a result, the hydraulic lift remains secure and stable, even as a freestanding unit.
How safe is the column lift?
The column lift is equipped with an automatic control and the hazard area is not fully visible to the operator, therefore both the upper and lower stops are completely enclosed with mesh fencing and the access doors are electromechanically locked.
To ensure that props do not fall off during transport, the platform is equipped with a surrounding railing. The railing panels are clad with sheets to protect the theater props from crushing and shearing injuries. The ceiling overhang is secured with light barriers, ensuring that the goods safely reach the second level.
Additional safety features include:
- A portal on the platform for symmetrical and stable guidance, even with off-center loads.
- Pre-lift and pre-lower limit switches for smooth entry into the stops.
- An electrical pressure switch for load monitoring, offering protection against overloading.
You might wonder if the column lift is approved for transporting people. Since the column lift is designed as a simplified goods lift, people are allowed to enter the platform for loading and unloading, but not for riding along. Additional safety technology would be required for passenger transport, which would be reflected in the price. As a lift table manufacturer, we specialize in pure load and freight transport.
